Advantages of Medicare in Florida

Florida may, admittedly, be the stereotypical place to retire - a mythical land of retirement homes and cranky, poorly-dressed senior citizens with whom you prefer not to be grouped in. Perhaps there seems to be no point in moving to Florida for your retirement, or you simply don't think you could afford such a move. However, it is important to remember that - whatever the reality of living there may be like - Florida does have a quite substantial population of senior citizens; this is basic statistical fact. And as a result, senior care facilities of all kinds will inevitably be more common, easier to access, and quite possibly of better quality in Florida - for the simple practical reason that there's more need for such facilities there.

Medicare in Florida

Take Medicare, for example, the health insurance program that both the government and private insurers administer for senior citizens who cannot afford their own coverage. Medicare is a federal program; it will cost approximately the same no matter where you live (and in the case of Medicare Part A, it will often cost you nothing up-front).

In Florida, where the senior population is so high, it may be easier to find the resources to help you figure out the maze of Medicare. It may be easier to find pharmacies and hospitals that will work with the Medicare program, and to deal with the necessary paperwork and bureaucracy, simply because the need for it there is already so common. And you may be far more likely to work with sympathetic people at every step who are used to dealing with patients of your age and with medical situations similar to yours. No one will be forcing you to hike up your belt and play canasta if you don't want to - but dealing with Medicare, and getting the medical care you need, could be a lot easier in Florida than anywhere else.
